MONS, BELGIUM — A Canadian national interning at NATO's strategic military headquarters has been arrested and remanded in custody on charges of foreign espionage and participation in a criminal organization, Belgian authorities announced on July 25, 2026.
The suspect, described by prosecutors as a female Canadian citizen of Chinese origin, was serving as a civilian intern at Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE) in Mons, Belgium. She was formally served with an arrest warrant on Friday, July 24, 2026, following law enforcement searches at her residence and workstation inside the NATO command complex.
According to a press statement issued by the Belgian Federal Public Prosecutor's Office, the suspect is alleged to have conducted intelligence activities on behalf of an undisclosed third country.
